wetpaint wiki project in a Brazilian public library
Aug 11 2008, 4:17 PM EDT | Post edited: Aug 11 2008, 4:17 PM EDT
Hi Jeff,
I am a graduate student in Brazil and my academic research is taking place in a "telecentro" in a public library in Brazil. There I teach groups of users to create their own wetpaint wiki and practice collaboration on the net. http://oficinaswiki.wetpaint.com
I've been working on this project since May 2008 and things had been going on quite nicely until last week. What happened is that the site was off during the workshop time and it was very frustating. As a teacher I had a plan B, but I am afraid the same happens next week and I don't have a plan C.
I know these are technical problems and sometimes it is not easy to predict them. On the other hand, checking the time the workshop takes place here in Brazil - Saturdays from 10 AM to 1 PM, I noticed it would be 6AM to 9AM (Seattle time - 4 hours less than here, São Paulo, Brazil). All these things considered, I'd like to ask you to take people from other places into consideration next time you decide to do something on the site and have it off line.

Hi Vera,

First I'm in Bangkok so I know all to well about sites going off line when you need them. I'll check with Wetpaint and see what happened. Stay tuned!

Hello Vera-

My name is Michael and I work at Wetpaint. I apologize for your experience on Saturday--the truth is that the outage was unplanned and related to some issues with our server host. This is not a normal occurrence for us and shouldn't happen again anytime soon.

When we have planned downtime (to release new features, fix bugs, etc.) we definitely keep all of our international users in mind as much as possible and try to keep the downtime to a minimum. You can learn about upcoming downtime by visiting our help wiki, www.wetpaintcentral.com.

I am confident that you won't experience another outage this coming Saturday. Good luck and thanks for using Wetpaint! Michael

Hi Vera First thanks for your post. I have never heard of a "telecentro" before so I researched it a little bit and it looks very interesting.

I understand your comment to take time zones into consideration... honestly I didn't think about that until your post. I am a little confused about the site being "off line" I will have to look into the settings. I thought this was an asynchronous learning/discussion WIKI.

Ohhh…. I bet you are talking about the link to my WIKI site… not to this site! You are right; it is set as an invitation only site… I will change that immediately

Tks a lot for your reply Jeff. People from the wetpaint central - report a bug forum and Michael have already told me what happened last Saturday. They are confident it won't happen again anytime soon.

Congrats on the good job. You seem to be a very competent and thoughtful team!
