China - UK -Chicago Collaborative project

Hi, I am co-ordinating a collaborative art exhibition between students in China, UK & Chicago. I have set up a wiki and sent out invitations. The first Chinese person to try to join has encounterd problems. I don't know exactly what sort of problems - I am waiting to hear more from her. Do you know if wetpaint wikis are accessible in China?

Another problem I have encountered is problems logging on to the site from our school network. I think this must have something to do with the school's internet security measures, but our technicians have not been able to solve the problem yet. Do you have any suggestions about this?
I'd really appreciate any help or information you could offer

ArtsAtTheEdge-

I'm sorry to let you know that the Chinese government blocks wetpaint.com URLs...meaning users within China cannot access any sites on our network.

As for your troubles at school--it does sound like our domain (wetpaint.com) is blocked by your school's IP address--and this is something that they need to address.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm afraid that this will continue to be an issue until we are unblocked in china.

Thanks for letting me know. That's really disappointing for me. I will continue to run my collaborative art exhibition using my wiki for the benefit of schools & students in the UK & in Chicago, but I will have to find another way of hosting the final exhibition so that pupils in China can view it. I am not a web designer & we don't have much of a budget. I would really appreciate any ideas you might have for transfering content from our wiki to another web format that is accessible in China. I know it has been a few months since this post, but I am a Chicago native teaching in Hong Kong and we can use wikipaint if you're interested. Do you find this valuable?

I lived in China for three years. Yes, Hong Kong is unblocked because they do not go through the Chinese filter in Beijing . All traffic coming from Mainland China passes through the Beijing filter and is blocked off and on by the government.

It's not Wetpaint's fault, the Chinese government basically blocks all websites that allow users to create content. So Blogger is blocked and all other wiki program are blocked off and on as the government finds things it doesn't like.

I worked for three years at an international school in Shanghai and it made it very difficult to do any collaborative projects with other schools that where not hosted on our school server. I hope that the Chinese Government opens up over time.
