Welcome to the world of wikis. You may want to visit Wetpaint Central. It is essentially Wetpaint's Instructional manual. There the features and tools are explained. There is also a forum to ask and get answers to questions one might have. Here is a link to the table of contents of that wiki.

At the bottom right of any page of this wiki, there is a link that reads "Start a free website". Clicking that link will take you through the 3 steps to create your own wiki. After your wiki is created, the URL of the wiki can be shared with your students so they may join your wiki and start contributing.
Wetpaint does not have an instructional manual but they do have a wiki that contains instructions on how to get familiar with Wetpaint wikis and all of its features. I invite you to visit Wetpaint Central's table of content to get started. Here is a link to that wiki:
http://www.wetpaintcentral.com
There is also a Help Forum on that wiki to assist if you have any questions with using and maintaining your wiki.

RE: New to Wetpaint wiki

Hi there and welcome. This wiki's purpose is to allow educators from around the world to share in how they use wikis in the classroom and to share ideas for improving the use of this type of media to better the classroom environment. You will not find any individualized classroom material here. That type of information is kept on other wikis created by the educators and their students. If appropriate, a link to their wiki can be placed here in a couple of different areas. But for the most part, this wiki is for global sharing.
If you are considering creating you own wiki, clicking on the big Green Button on the home page is the place to start. Also, Wetpaint has a wonderful help wiki, that will provide instructions on every aspect of a Wetpaint Wiki.
There is in place a help forum to answer any specific questions about creating, maintaining, and using a Wetpaint wiki. The address for the Help wiki is"
http://www.wetpaintcentral.com
This should get you on your way to creating and enjoying "Wikis by Wetpaint"

What Has to be Done?
So, you have to write 10000 words in seven days. Along with an in-depth research and writing, you will also have to get your dissertation bound. So, complete your research and writing in the first 5 days and leave the last two days for binding. You actually need only one day for printing and binding but don’t leave binding till the last day and therefore do not plan on getting it bound on the seventh day. Because if you couldn’t finish writing your dissertation in first 5 days then you will have one extra day to complete it. So, here is a plan that will work but requires hard work and dedication:
Divide Your Work in Days:
You should divide your work in days as it will allow you to narrow down your project and organize it in a better way. You have two options:
i) You should finish your dissertation in 5 days and leave the last two days for editing and getting your dissertation bound. So, if you write 2,000 words a day, you will easily be done in 5 days and it won’t seem like much work as compared to thinking about 10000 words in a week. Basically you will be writing 8 pages everyday, each page with 250 words. But do you want to both research and write 2000 words everyday?
ii) If you don’t want to do both everyday then you can do your research in first 2 days. Collect all the material in two days and write your dissertation in next 3 days. This way you will be writing around 3300 words everyday, that means around 13-14 pages everyday which is still not bad.
The best time to write your dissertation is early in the morning. Wake up early and start writing it.
Ask Your Friends to Contribute:
It’s time you ask your friends to contribute and help you with your research. If you can only get a few friends to help you with finding relevant matter, it will facilitate your dissertation writing process tremendously. You need to remain calm and relaxed.

I have just found your site via googling for something else. I am seriously impressed
I have added a link to Wikis in Education from "ProofWiki", the mathematical proofs website in which I am heavily involved. It's not a "wetpaint" wiki, but a standard MediaWiki installation (it was there, it had the available functionality and it was easy to use).
I don't know what your policy is on publicising sites external to your "wetpaint" agenda (and I fully appreciate your non-advertising policy), but we would be delighted to be cited here, if that is appropriate.
Our home page is www (dot) proofwiki (dot) org and we've been around since 2008. If there is anyone here who is passionate about mathematics, then give is a look.

I have one student who is not able to accept the invite and I can't figure out why. I have tried to invite him now with three different emails, but to no avail. He gets the invitation, but when the wetpaint pop-up comes up, he gets the members only page. Has anybody else had this experience or know what to do?

"There's a bit of a difference between an over the counter drug that has been tampered with and a free web service that makes changes to it's features. The former is a potentially deadly anomaly, and the latter is the norm for the web industry.
I definitely agree that being open with customers is a good approach, but in the web industry sometimes things will change quickly and drastically. If the changes are valuable to lots of people, then we have done our job well. However, we do acknowledge that changes will always alienate or frustrate a certain sub-set of users. That's just how things work in this industry." Wow. This moment ought to be an opportunity for you to learn about how to make the business stronger in a time of economic insecurity. Instead you offer excuses? Our practices -- though frustrating and fixable -- are standard and therefore acceptable? You are just marginal anyway? The changes themselves are not a big issue in my own usage, but this attitude is the reason I will go looking elsewhere and avoid trying out your future services.

Blogging in the classroom can be used in a number of ways. One can have several class blogs, some examples could be: Q&A, Group Projects, Help, etc. These tools can be very useful to teachers. In today's society, students communicate more effectively via written word than verbal, which, of course, has its own down-side. To get a student to open up and be honest, ask for help, etc. a blog could be a great tool. Classes can be too large for effective communication in one session and using a blog can encourage extra discussion and more elaborate discussion as students have more time to think about the problems posed and can submit more thought provoked ideas. In my line of work, Legal, there are also some tools that a blog would be useful for, however, for the most part, communications cannot take place via a blog or online forum yet. I do believe, however, that we are making our way to that end rapidly.

I could not add my wiki address to the above chart. So I'll try this method of communication.
Please check out http://englishingle.wetpaint.com/
It's an interdisciplinary source for students and teachers to get ideas for short essay assignments, especially argument and opposing views. It includes (and could include more) tips for writers. There are topics and articles ranging from "advanced medical directive" and "cryptozoology" to "SETI" and "Supreme Court Cases". The site can also help students and teachers avoid and detect unintentional plagiarism by having readers and writers in the classroom share the same online sources.

As I learn more about blogging, I realize that it is a necessary tool in all aspects such as classroom teaching, professional development, training & development, or corporate setting. I have two usages for the blog. One is in my professional work when I teach QuickBooks to a Community College and the other one for my classes. The blog for the online classes that I am taking, I would use learning blog to learn how to blog as well to share my experiences with other classmates. When I teach QuickBooks at a community college, I could set up a blog for the students who could communicate their experience of the class and their learning of the material in the blog. They could also ask questions and put helpful hints on the blogs about how to use the software, QuickBooks. I am actually going to explore the way that my class can start utilizing this for the next class.

The courses I teach instruct on how to use database software and how to understand databases in general. Some of the concepts, particularly that of normalization, are difficult to explain. Using a blog for tough concepts such as normalization, sorting, and queries would be a good way to have everyone describe their problems and supply explanations in their own words that might be different and better for them to understand than my words might have been. The type of blog I would use would be a Class Blog. I think a blog can be easier to "speak" in than a traditional class. There is plenty of time to organize your thoughts before you start typing, and there is the anonymity of no one seeing you if you ask a "stupid" question. It is both private and at the same time public to the class members. Concepts that are difficult to understand can be a challenge in an online course. A blog could make the process more interactive.

I am using blogs in both BITE 5200 and BITE 5389 classes to do the weekly participation project of the class. This clearly shows that blogs can be a wonderful educational tool that students and teachers can use to their full advantage. I agree with Ephar3 that adding videos to blogs do make the blogs more interactive and user friendly. Even without videos blogs load fast on slower internet connection and are easy to create and edit that makes it an ideal choice for both high school and college students who are not technically savvy enough to code in html or upload using ftp.

I so agree with because blogging is a easy process all you have to do is type what you want to say and then post it for others to read and share there thoughts on the same subject. I believe that every school system should use blogging as part of there class so that you can get the students use to blogging and understand that this helps you by particpating throughout the school year!!

Well as a Distance Education Student I have been using blogging in atleast two of my classes, and it has actually been really helpful becasue it lets you see that some people think like you or they may make a better point which will make you see the bigger picture of the thing you are talking about. I believe that teachers should use this in the early stages like with the students that are in middle and high school to get them use to blogging and expression what they thought about the story or article they are reading. Blogging poses as a great new teaching method and you don't have to have that much paperwork to do with blogging you write and you post, that is so easy to do, I love the idea of using blogging throughout the school system!!
