I'm just back from the National Educational Computer Conference (
NECC) in Washington DC where I ran a 6 hour workshop for educators who wanted to learn more about wikis and what you could do with them. The 28 educators are all now members of this site and are here to support you as well.
The 6 hours focused on two parts:
First we talked about the pedagogy behind using wikis in the classroom. We explored other educational wikis and talked about how to get students involved, how to organize, evaluate, and even how to create sites that allow for collaboration and communication.
The second part focused on helping educators getting started building their first wikis. We covered everything from linking pages, to adding content modules and widgets. Educators had time to just sit and explore and create with 1-on-1 help from me and Devin from Wetpaint.
A big thanks you to Devin and Wetpaint for their commitment to education. Devin, a wetpaint employee, flew to DC to hep run the 6 hour workshop with me. You can read Devin's take on the day on the
Wetpaint blog. A big thank you again to Wetpaint and their support to education and educators.
Are You Interested in Getting Wiki Certified?
I've had a few people on this site ask me if I would be wiling to run an Educational Wiki Certification Program virtually on the web. What I need to know is how many people are interested and what would you be willing to pay for such a program. I'm thinking a two week web based program....other than that I haven't put a lot of thought into it. I've ran seven graduate classes using a wiki and know how to run an online course, that being said it needs to be worth my time and energy to make a course work. If you are interested, please take a moment to fill out the survey below. Next month I'll report back the results of the survey and what my next steps will be.
