Deleting or Banning Users

Banned is such a harsh word. Way too harsh for us warm hearted teachers, but we must also remember that Wetpaint was not made out right for education and in a society that sees a lot of Spam users banned...it is the perfect word.

Many of you have been writing in on the forums lately wanting to know how to delete old students from the wiki. Seeing it's the start of a new year and probably a new semester of learning for most, this is a great time to do a little wiki house cleaning and delete old users from your system.

Here's how you do it:

1. Log into your wiki. Only moderators and up can ban members.

2. Click on Members

Click on Members

3. Click on the profile of a member you want to ban (delete) and then click on view profile

Click on Member

4. Click on Change Permissions

Click Change Permissions

5. Choose Banned and confirm by clicking on Change Permissions

Click on Banned

There you have it! The step by step guide to deleting/banning members from your wiki. Now go out there and clean up those wikis.

It would be great to have a list view of all the member with options to perform bulk operations, like banning members, changing permissions, etc, etc
Do you find this valuable?

If members changed their preferences to:
* Do not list my username in the Site Members report, or as a sender for the New Member Message.
* Do not share my activities with my friends.

They will not be seen while clicking on Members...
If they don't have friends... or deleted their friends... and if they have no site activity... you won't even know that they are there...

Very strange thing...
Even administrators and creators of a site can't see them anymore.. and therefore can't manage them...

If you get a weekly digest of your site... just check the amount of members mentioned in that mail...
Then go to your site.. click on members ... and check the total amount there...
Big chance there will be a different outcome..
Due to the above mentioned feature...

I already reported this as a bug at wetpaint central.. but nothing has been done about it.
