Educational Templates

Feb. 2009 Tip - Wikis in EducationAt the end of January, Wetpaint decided to do away with the template feature that allowed people to make site templates. The site templates were a great place to start, but they were limited. Only when you first created a course to set up your site could you use one of the educational templates. Some people found it frustrating that they could not go back after a site had been created to apply a site template. By Wetpaint removing the site templates, this requires us to create our own educational templates and share them with each other.

I have heard from some educators who were asking about an easy way to create template pages. The easiest way of course, is to find a page that you like and then copy and paste it into your own wiki page. I do this quite often and Wetpaint is really good about keeping the structure of a page when you copy and paste.

Recently, I've started a new area for the wikis in education community. An Educational Template section where members can create, share and use page templates. You can even create templates on your own site. Wetpaint Central has some easy to follow tutorials on how to create page templates on your site.

So, let's help each other out by sharing page layouts that we have found successful. Or if you have an idea for a Template that you would like to see, put it on the Educational Template page and as a community we'll build it together.
