Wikify your Portfolio

As the school year winds down we start to think about the end of the year and for many putting together a portfolio of work for students. What if you cold wikify your classroom portfolios.

1. Create a Portfolio Wiki
2. Create a page for each student
3. Take digital photos of work, images of the student, or even short videos to put on their portfolio page.

PortfolioAllow students to write about there year and their experiences. You can easily make a class portfolio of learning throughout the school year. This is a great time of year to give this a go...work out some bugs and then next school year hit the ground running in August. Set the portfolio up from the beginning of the year and have students reflect on it as the school year progresses. In the end you end up with a great site of reflections of learning.

It is good idea :-) Wiki is good and easy place for it!
For me problems is the language. If would be possible easy change languages both: menu language (all that Home/Discussions/Photos/...) and content. It could be like google translation or translation made by hand. With small country flags in page corner - when somebody klik on flag - page language change :-)
Another good idea would be - more space for pictures. Maybe possibility link to picture that is placed in another server, or link to galleries - for example picassa gallery (maybe it is possible? i dont find it)

We started using ePortfolios this year with our high school students to show what they have learned at our career and technology center. Our students' graduation projects, work histories, job shadow experiences, writing samples and career-related examples of work are featured items on their pages. The documentation includes video, still photos, audio interviews and other embedded items. The student response has grown nicely over the year and staff buy-in is following.
This project has had an off-shoot of creating a local professional learning community of eight teachers that have jointly worked to get this project off the ground. We too have used a wiki to communicate, share best practices and reflect on how to improve the project next year. This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my ten-year teaching career. Our model ePortfolio that students used to get ideas can be found at: http://pickeringportfolio.wetpaint.com/

Great idea. What I could really use is a way to place big images and be able to click on them to get them enlarged in a separate window. Students have found out that placing a smaal image, linking to an attached bigger image also works, yet this is a workaround. See if you can help givingg visuals more "space" somehow. That's my challenge for you
